This next installment of the Chautauqua Lecture Series features EKU’s own Dr. Sara Incera and is entitled “Using Data to Uncover the Bilingual Mind."

Sara Incera is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and a Principal Investigator in the Multilingual Laboratory at Eastern Kentucky University, where she teaches courses in Research Methods and Cognitive Psychology. Her research interests include cognition, bilingualism, foreign accents, second language acquisition, and language development across the lifespan, and her work has been presented in national and international venues.
Dr. Incera has been the recipient (in 2018) of a QEP research grant to examine critical reading at EKU. She has also been a leader in the recent development of the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity’s Data Science Program, which provides undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to work with real data. Data Science consultants are trained to support students, faculty and staff in their research and analysis projects. The team follows best practices in data science in ways that will improve how researchers across campus think about data collection, data visualization, and data analysis.
Incera completed both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at the Universidad de Salamanca in her native Spain, during which time she also profited from an Erasmus program study abroad year at University College Cork in Ireland. Sara went on to earn another master’s degree and then her Ph.D. at Cleveland State University, where she wrote a dissertation on “Bilingualism Across the Adult Life-Span: Age and Language Usage Are Continuous Variables,” and spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher prior to arriving at EKU in 2017.
The 2020-21 live streaming Virtual Chautauqua Lecture Series at Eastern Kentucky University will be devoted to interdisciplinary exploration of the themes, "Balance/Resilience" (continued from last year) + "Dealing with Data: Information, Influence and Interpretation" (new for this year). Speakers and presenters include a host of leading scholars and prominent figures in the fields of mathematics, data analytics, finance, history, politics, philosophy, media studies, cultural studies, literature, psychology and anthropology. Unfortunately, owing to public health concerns, we will not be able to host our traditional National Juried Art Exhibition, but it will return for next year. In the meantime, join us at all our live streaming events for another exciting year of stimulating ideas, eye-opening explorations and engaging conversations.
