Eastern Kentucky University’s Center for Career and Workforce Development will offer dozens of community education courses through June.
In addition to several basket-weaving courses on the Richmond and Corbin campuses, the lineup includes a “Mind and Body Tune-Up” class in Richmond and Berea, reading skills and speed-reading programs for children and adults, and a wide range of instructor-facilitated on-line courses through a partnership with Ed2Go.
EKU community education classes meet a wide variety of needs and interests among all ages and skill levels. Courses are scheduled in arts and crafts, healthy living, personal growth, and recreation and exercise. Many of the classes meet only once, while others meet over a period of several weeks. Most of the Richmond campus classes are held in the Perkins Building, on Kit Carson Drive, where public parking spaces are plentiful.
Pre-registration is required for all classes. The O’Donnell Scholarship allows individuals age 65 or older are entitled to enroll in any Community Education class, contingent on slot availability, free of charge. The scholarship only covers tuition.
In addition to the basket-weaving options, arts and crafts courses include one on making beaded tassel necklaces and another on making bracelets.
“Healthy Living” offerings include Intro to Prime-Time Health, a workshop on essential oils and a course on cooking with chronic disease.
Personal Growth classes include Digital Photography (Basic to Intermediate and Advanced Creative Techniques); Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED, Heartsaver CPR AED and Heartsaver First Aid; Wordpress Website Basics and Digital Marketing Basics.
Recreation and exercise classes run the gamut of activities, age requirements and skills. They include Exercise for Adults with Chronic Conditions, Body Ready Lite, Mind and Body Tune-Up (Richmond and Berea), Yoga, and Adult and Junior Tennis Clinics.
Institute of Reading Development summer reading programs in Lexington, Louisville and online are planned for all ages, beginning with four-year-olds. For more information about the reading programs, or to register, call 1-800-964-8888.
