EKU, High Point Choirs to Present Concert

The Eastern Kentucky University choirs will present their spring concert on Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Richmond.

The EKU Chamber Singers will perform Morten Lauridsen’s “Mid-Winter Songs” under the direction of Dr. Richard Waters, director of choral activities. Graduate student Michael Welch will present his master’s conducting recital with the EKU Concert Choir and University Singers, featuring music by Dan Forrest, Michael Haydn, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Michael Welch and Eric Whitacre.

The EKU choirs will be joined by the High Point (North Carolina) University Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Marc Ashley Foster. Recent notable performances include Carnegie Hall in New York City (2011); North Carolina Music Educators Association Conference (2013); College Music Society regional convention (2015); North Carolina American Choral Directors Association Conference (2015); Southern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (2016); and the Quadrennial General Conference of the United Methodist Church in Portland, Oregon (2016). International performances include St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Duomo in Florence, and St. Mark’s in Venice, Italy; and concerts in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria; Berlin, Germany; Prague, Czech Republic; Budapest, Hungary; and Wroclaw, Poland.
