The Eastern Kentucky University Quick Recall team competed with some of the top teams in the country at the National Association of Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) sectional meet at Virginia Tech on Saturday, Feb.9.
The Colonels competed strongly against some of the best teams in the nation, finishing the tournament in 13th place among 19 in their division. After achieving a decisive victory over Liberty University during their first match, they faced the University of Virginia, a team that has won three NAQT collegiate national championships in the past decade. Although the Virginia team ultimately won the match, the Colonels managed to post more than 100 points against them — a mark that even top teams failed to reach, including North Carolina State and Virginia Commonwealth.
The select EKU team that competed at Virginia Tech includes junior and team president Jenna Price, senior Andrew Coyle, junior Sean Greer and freshmen Grayson Salyers and Katie Rogers. The Quick Recall Colonels will compete again on March 23, when they host the final Kentucky Collegiate Quick Recall League tournament of the year.
The Quick Recall team is housed in the EKU Honors Program, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this academic year. Although supported financially and organizationally by the Honors Program, the Quick Recall team welcomes all interested undergraduate students from across campus, whether or not they are enrolled in Honors.
