A group of EKU therapeutic recreation students provided a camp recently for children and families at Camp Horsin' Around in Perryville.
The students, under the direction of Dr. Michelle Gerken, oversaw an overnight camp experience and activities such as arts and crafts, games for socialization, and outdoor activities such as hiking and drumming.
This was the first university class to offer such a service at the camp.
"The weekend provided an opprtunity for the campers and siblings to bond in a unique way while the parents attended sessions for parents with autism," Gerken said. "The camp was an exceptional learning environment for the threapeutic recreation students as well as the campers."
