Two exhibits opening Sept. 21 in Eastern Kentucky University’s Giles Gallery will feature photography by Brian Charles Steel and sculptures by Walter Early.
Steel’s exhibit, “Impaired Perceptions,” is a black-and-white portrait series of individuals with disabilities accompanied by interviews with the subjects. Steel himself was born with congenital fiber type disproportion, which causes weak skeletal muscles. He is known for his sympathetic portrayals of individuals with disabilities.
Early often works with discarded materials from other artists’ studios, placing the forms in new settings and preserving them in a layer of brightly-colored paint.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Thursday, Sept. 24.
Both exhibits will remain on display in the Jane F. Campbell Building through Oct. 16.
Gallery events are free and open to the public. Group tours are welcome. For Gallery hours, call 859-622-8135
