Dr. Angela Aaron, staff psychologist and training coordinator in the Eastern Kentucky University Counseling Center, is the 2018 recipient of the Counseling Center Outstanding Early Career Psychologist Award presented by the American Psychological Association.
Aaron, who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from EKU and returned to her alma mater to serve in its Counseling Center in January 2018, was recognized for her groundbreaking research analyzing the social support experiences of transgender individuals in central Appalachia. “To date, this was the first documentation of the experience of gender minorities in central Appalachia, which differs from mainstream America and even other rural regions throughout the U.S.,” Aaron said.
She continues to specialize in working with rural transgender individuals as well as LGB students at Eastern.
