An Eastern Kentucky University faculty member has received the 2017 Unsung Hero Award from the National Association of EMS Educators.
Nancye Davis, chair of the Department of Fire Protection and Paramedicine Sciences, has spent more than 30 years in the field of emergency medicine, the last 25 as an EKU faculty member.
Under the leadership of Davis the past four years, the department has:
· Opened a new, high-fidelity simulation suite that can function as a nursing home room, ED or ICU room, and includes a control room with camera and microphones to record all actions for debriefing.
· Acquired an outdoor-based ambulance simulator, which can be transported to any EMS agency in the area to provide simulation training in a realistic environment.
· Launched an online degree completion program and an online/hybrid paramedic program.
