An Eastern Kentucky University faculty member is the editor of a new book, “Campus Diversity Triumphs: Valleys of Hope.”
Dr. Sherwood Thompson, professor of educational leadership, said he hopes the book “will work as a reference tool for educational leaders working to advance inclusive excellence on college and university campuses. With the heightened focus on the changing demographics on campuses, I wanted to highlight some of the successful diversity programs across the United States that are making a difference in combating destructive thinking, prejudices and emotionally charged stereotypes.”
Eighteen diversity officers, some also holding faculty positions, contributed to the book, which was published by Emerald Books
“This book draws upon the experiences of diversity officers and provides a forum about how they work to sustain diversity and inclusive excellence on college and university campuses,” said Thompson, who joined the EKU faculty in 2006.
In 2017, Thompson joined the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Global Education and Research. He had previously served the University as interim chief diversity officer and as assistant dean and director of teacher education services in the College of Education. He was the editor of Encyclopedia of Diversity and Social Justice, published in 2014, and has served as president of the Association for the Advancement of Educational Research.
