Two Students Receive Thacker Scholarship

Jessie Casebolt and Lauren Rose have received this year’s Kyle J. Thacker Memorial Scholarship for economics majors at Eastern Kentucky University.

Casebolt, of Richmond, graduated from Pikeville High School. Her concentration is in international economics and she has maintained a 3.6 GPA while at Eastern. “I chose this degree because economic development is responsible for improving the lives of people,” she said. “I hope it will empower me to the extent that I can be a part of the solution and bring change to my home.”

Rose, a Montgomery County High School graduate from Mt. Sterling, has maintained a 4.0 GPA at Eastern. “I was unaware at the time of taking Principles of Macroeconomics that this degree would be something I would grow to be passionate about,” she said. “I chose economics because it has allowed me to challenge myself in ways I didn’t know that I could.”

The Thacker Scholarship is awarded to outstanding junior and senior economics majors at EKU. It is given in memory of Kyle J. Thacker, a 2012 economics graduate from Somerset who was killed in an accident in February 2013.
