Eastern Kentucky University’s adult education programs in Madison and Garrard counties were recognized recently by Kentucky Adult Education for ranking among the Top 25 such programs in the Commonwealth.
To earn the recognition, a county-level Kentucky adult education program must meet or exceed pre-determined goals each month. For the fourth month this year, the EKU Garrard County Adult Education Program has achieved or exceeded goals in the areas of student academic achievement and GED® obtainment. Currently, Garrard County Adult Education ranks third in the state for academic performance. For overall performance, the EKU Garrard County Adult Education Program ranks 20th in the state out of 120 programs.
Both the Madison and Garrard County adult education programs ranked in the top 25 programs in the state for meeting or exceeding National Career Ready Certification (NCRC) goals. Currently, the EKU Madison County Adult Education Program is ranked 14th and the EKU Garrard County Adult Education Program 16th. The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) examination assesses an individual’s skill level in three areas deemed critical for employability: reading for information, applied mathematics, and locating information. As of March 15, all three EKU adult education programs in Madison, Garrard and Clay counties have already exceeded their annual NCRC completion goals.
“We are energized by the current state rankings,” said Dr. Paula Jones, director of the EKU adult education programs. “This is truly the result of the excellent work of our Adult Education instructors and our students. These new rankings represent the dedication and commitment from both students and instructors in our adult education programs.
“The EKU adult education programs are here to support adult students to achieve their academic and career goals,” Jones added. “We hope that through this state recognition, adults in our community will continue to see the value of our program and we will have the opportunity to serve more adults in all three counties.”
The EKU adult education programs offer adults in Madison, Garrard and Clay counties free GED® classes, math/language skill development courses and a variety of work-ready certifications, including the National Career Ready Certification (NCRC), Kentucky Paraeducator Certification, Job Ready Skills and/or ACT prep courses.
