Last spring, Eastern Kentucky University founded a State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) training program at its Manchester campus. With demand for healthcare professionals at an all-time high, EKU Workforce Development has partnered with the Madison County Area Technology Center to offer the program in Richmond.
“We're very excited to partner with the Madison County Area Technology Center to offer the SRNA program in Richmond,” said Jill Price, associate vice president of university outreach and engagement. “EKU Workforce Development and Community Engagement strives to offer high-demand programming to meet the growing needs of today’s workforce.”
Accredited by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, the 10-week SRNA program trains students through 59 hours of classroom instruction and an additional 16 hours of clinical practice. Students of the program can enjoy flexible scheduling, with classes held Tuesdays and Thursday from 4-8 p.m.; small class sizes of 15 or less and Work Ready scholarships for eligible students who have not yet earned an associate degree or recognized industry certificate.
The program’s expansion comes in response to an ever-increasing demand for nursing professionals, including SRNAs. Upon completing the program, graduates can begin their careers in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, assisted living and long-term care facilities, and home healthcare agencies.
“A State Registered Nurse Aide is an important part of today’s health care system,” said Director of Workforce Development and Community Engagement Susan Cornelius. “Upon successful completion of our training program and passing the state exam, graduates can immediately be employed in a variety of high-demand healthcare settings.”
Registration is now open, and courses will begin on January 26, 2021 at the Madison County Area Technology Center, located at 703 N Second St. in Richmond. For more information or to enroll, contact Susan Cornelius at 859-622-6216 or susan.cornelius@eku.edu, or visit workforce.eku.edu.
