For the 11th straight semester, more than 300 Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes combined for a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The cumulative GPA for EKU student-athletes in the spring of 2017 was 3.09, which is the second highest spring GPA on record.
Thirteen of 15 athletic teams (indoor and outdoor track combined) posted a cumulative GPA above 3.0. Forty-seven student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester, which is the second most ever during a spring semester. Overall 171, or 61 percent, ended the semester with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
“Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes again proved stellar in the classroom. These young men and women are atop the academic success that Eastern Kentucky University enjoys,” Director of Athletics Stephen Lochmueller said. “The impressive grade point averages of our students who participate in athletics this past semester is evidence of their commitment to be champions in the classroom.”
Two teams posted their highest spring semester GPA ever. The baseball team accumulated a 3.17 GPA during its competition season, tying for its best spring GPA on record. The men’s cross country team’s GPA of 3.39 is a record for any semester.
The soccer team’s 3.58 GPA was the highest among Eastern’s sports this past spring. That number is also the second-highest team GPA for the soccer team in any semester ever. Meanwhile, the men's golf team was tops among the men's programs with a 3.48 GPA, their second-highest spring GPA ever.
The volleyball team also posted its second-highest GPA for any semester at 3.57.
The 3.35 combined GPA for EKU’s female student-athletes is the second highest for a spring semester on record.
Ninety-five Colonels earned Dean’s List recognition, which is the third most ever for a spring semester.
