Kentucky’s Capitol found itself teeming with Colonels on Tuesday, Feb. 25, as EKU partnered with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce to host Colonels at the Capitol. The event allowed its 75 attendees to visit the capitol, hear from representatives, and attend a legislative session.
“Colonels at the Capitol provides an important opportunity to interact with key policymakers and advocate for EKU and our local community,” said Ethan Witt, Director of Government and Community Relations at EKU. “Doing so with a unified voice only strengthens our efforts and I am proud that so many local businesses and organizations were represented.”
Participants spent the morning in conversation with officials including Senate President Robert Stivers; Attorney General Daniel Cameron; Senator Jared Carpenter; Representative Deanna Frazier; Senate Minority Floor Leader Morgan McGarvey; House Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade; State Auditor Mike Harmon; House Minority Floor Leader Joni Jenkins and State Treasurer Allison Ball. During lunch, the group heard from Secretary of State Michael Adams; House Minority Whip Angie Hatton; and representatives Ken Upchurch, Kim King, Les Yates, Travis Brenda and Ed Massey.
After lunch, the group met with Governor Andy Beshear and then had the option to attend a legislative session. Below are some photos of the day, taken by Brandie Conder.
