Theatre to Present "The Cherry Orchard"

Published on November 04, 2016

Eastern Kentucky University Theatre will present a new adaptation of “The Cherry Orchard” at Gifford Theatre Nov. 16-20.

Chekov’s classic comedy of futility and self-deception finds new life in this adaptation by EKU faculty member Matthew Johnson, who is also directing the play. The world is upside down for the once wealthy Gayev family. Facing the impending auction of their estate and famous orchard, they spend their days and waning fortune on trivialities while their former servants deal with the meaning of their newfound lives of social mobility.

The Gifford Theatre curtain rises at 8 p.m. nightly Nov. 16-19 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20. Tickets, $5 for students and senior citizens and $6 for others, are on sale online at www.theatre.eku.edu and are available at the Gifford Box Office in the Campbell Building on weekdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and beginning an hour before each performance.
