Students, faculty and staff will come together April 11-15 to celebrate a campus culture of scholarship, research and creative endeavors during Eastern Kentucky University’s annual Scholarship Week.
The celebration includes a diverse series of events highlighting the scholarship and creativity of students and their faculty mentors at Eastern Kentucky University. They include an Alumni Spotlight, Honors thesis presentations, the University poster/presentation showcase for undergraduate and graduate presentations, a faculty scholarship showcase, musical and dance performances, an art exhibit, showcase for emerging technology, Noel Studio Program Appreciation Night, a University Scholars Assembly at which major awards are presented, and more.
The University Scholars Assembly, on Friday, April 15 at 8:30 a.m., and most other events will take place in EKU’s John Grant Crabbe Main Library.
The Alumni Spotlight on Thursday, April 14, will feature Jeff Newton and Rene Heinrich. Newton, a 1997 journalism graduate and member of EKU’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni, is now senior producer at Vice on HBO. He has won two Emmy awards, the Edward R. Murrow Award and the Alfred I. duPont Award, one of broadcast journalism’s most prestigious honors, among other awards. Heinrich, who graduated as an Honors Scholar with degrees in speech communications and English and theatre in 1995, is owner of The Heinrich Firm in northern Kentucky. She served as the attorney for James Yates and William Smith, the first same-sex couple to receive a marriage license in Rowan County, Kentucky, where Kim Davis serves as county clerk. Their presentations begin at 5:30 in Room 108 of the Library, with a reception afterward. Advance registration is encouraged for the Alumni Spotlight: visit studio.eku.edu.
