Dr. Timothy Forde was recently named director of the African/African-American Studies Program at Eastern Kentucky University.
Before his appointment, he was a faculty member in the School of Clinical Educator Preparation in EKU’s College of Education.
Forde has spent the past 10 years teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on the latest emerging instructional technologies. He has also created professional development workshops for teachers on the topic of integrating instructional technologies in the classroom and has presented extensively on the use of information and communication technologies as a tool to support culturally supportive instruction.
Prior to coming to EKU, Forde spent several years working as a researcher at a high school dropout and drug prevention program at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. The program, called “I Have a Future,” was successful in reducing both dropout and drug use rates for inner-city youth and received national acclaim.
Forde also served as the director of an alternative school for minority males in kindergarten through 12th grade. The program was funded by a demonstration grant from the National Science Foundation and was successful in supporting students’ efforts to graduate from high school and attend college with scholarships.
Forde has several years of administrative experience as associate director of Science Education Programs at Oak Ridge Associated Universities, a consortium of major doctorate-granting academic instructions that cultivate collaborative partnerships to enhance the scientific research and educational enterprise of science and technology through research and fellowship opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students. In this role he supervised employees, managed multimillion dollar budgets and developed new programs.
Forde earned a bachelor’s degree from Oakwood University, a master’s of public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a doctorate from Vanderbilt University.
In his free time he enjoys cycling, racquetball and playing the piano.
