For the fourth consecutive year, an Eastern Kentucky University Risk Management and Insurance major is one of only 30 students nationwide selected to participate in the prestigious Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program.
Brianna Saylor, a junior from Berea, will attend, all expenses paid, the Risk Management Society (RIMS) 2016 Annual Conference and Exhibition in San Diego in April.
The cross-country flight to attend the four-day event pales in comparison to Saylor’s educational journey at EKU.
“I’m in my third semester of Risk Management and Insurance coursework,” she noted, “and I enjoy every minute of it. I am continually being pushed by my professors and peers to get the most out of this degree that I possibly can. This, in itself, has led me to completely rearrange my lifetime goals.”
Debbie Ellis, an administrative assistant with EKU’s Risk Management and Insurance program, said Saylor is a “hard worker, very organized and willing to put forth the extra effort to get what she wants. RIMS is the premier organization for risk managers, and the conference will be attended by hundreds of people from across the nation. This is a great honor for us and our program to have students chosen.”
In addition to maintaining a 3.7 GPA (4.0 in her major) as a Patterson Scholar, Saylor’s schedule is filled with extracurricular activities. She has served as a member of Campus Outreach, the Madison County Business and Education Partnership Committee, the Student Government Association (as director of community relations), the Future Is Now Eastern Kentucky University Expansion Committee and the Alpha Omicron Pi Bylaws Committee.
Now she is weighing her career options to find one that best suits her personal traits.
“I am currently exploring the possibility of working in excess and surplus lines,” Saylor said. “Receiving this honor will be a great opportunity for me to network with experts in this field and gain knowledge and experience for my future career.”
The Madison Southern High School graduate is the daughter of Christy Saylor and Eugene Saylor and the granddaughter of Kathy and Robert Thompson.
