Head Coach Edwin Thompson and members of the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team visited Kit Carson Elementary in Richmond recently for International Literacy Day.

Members of the team and staff read to the students and talked to them about the importance of reading and developing reading skills.

“We want to thank Coach T, his staff and players for being so willing to participate in International Literacy Day at Kit Carson Elementary this year,” teacher Whitney Hamilton said.  “It is wonderful to have readers come to class, especially athletes.  Kids really relate to them and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

Thompson picked his favorite childhood book to read to the class, "Curious George Plays Baseball."

“Getting involved in the Richmond community is important to myself and players,” Thompson said.  “It is a great opportunity for our players to give back to kids that support us during the season.  We are thankful for Kit Carson Elementary, and Mrs. Hamilton for this opportunity.  Our program is looking forward to building great relationships in our community.”
