Online Master of Arts in Teaching Program Launches

Published on November 20, 2015

Eastern Kentucky University will offer an online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree beginning in spring 2016. The program, designed for those who already hold a non-teaching bachelor’s degree and want to become a teacher, combines licensure preparation and master’s level coursework in a single flexible program.

“We are very excited to offer our MAT degree online,” said April Blakely, EKU MAT program coordinator and associate professor of curriculum and instruction. “We hope to broaden our reach and offer a larger audience of students, who might not otherwise be able to attend a more traditional on-campus program, the opportunity to begin an exciting new chapter in their careers.”

EKU Online students will select a degree concentration leading to teacher certification in one of the following areas:

·         Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education

·         Elementary Education

·         Middle Grades Education

·         Secondary Education

EKU Online students will take the same courses and earn the same degree as on-campus education students. Interested candidates can also take advantage of a free transcript evaluation service to learn what concentrations they are qualified to pursue in the MAT program. To learn more or to enroll, visit go.EKU.edu/NEWMAT.
